Welcome to the historical site for Waterford Speedbowl, a 3/8 asphalt oval racetrack located in Waterford, CT. This volunteer effort to preserve the Speedbowl's history is spearheaded by track historian Tom "Sid" DiMaggio. Our website includes a detailed Statistical History containing all the feature winners, track champions, time trial records, award winners and operating teams from each season from the very first in 1951 all the way to today in the Almanac. Each season also incudes a year in review & pictures of that year's track champions. There is also a Record Book listing the current leaders in several statistical categories. We update our site after every Speedbowl season. Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive account of the Speedbowl's long history.
In addition to the statistics, we've used multimedia as another way to preserve Speedbowl history. In 2008, we started work on A Speedbowl Story - a documentary film project (due for release in 2014). In 2010, we also began filming the races on a weekly basis and producing a web episode series (a.k.a. webisodes) entitled Sid's View featuring a fan's perspective of the track's weekly Saturday night events.
We've recently redesigned our site with hopes to make browsing the Speedbowl's history more user friendly. Please feel free to contact us at any time with any questions or comments about our research, our videos or our website. In the meantime, enjoy your trip down the memory lane! |
