The 1950's

 The Early Years

Lorenzet photo from Caddick family collection
Early picture from track's first season in 1951 featuring many of the track's operating staff gathered with the track vehicles in the pit area.  Like most pics from the early years, it was taken by Shany Lorenzet but unfortunately, the picture's quality has deminished over the years (that can happen when it's almost 60 years old!) Anyone with information on the identities of the people you see in this photo, please contact Sid.  Thanks to the Brad Caddick for submitting this rare find!

submitted by Benvenuti family
One of the Speedbowl's first immortal figures, Don Collins won 5 Modified Championships driving against the likes of Bill Slater, Moe Gherzi & Red Foote.  Above in his familiar #106, he drives to one of his 56 feature wins during the 1950's ahead of Wild Bill Slater in the #5 machine. The very first Speedbowl Souvenir Track Program. Donated to the Vault by Don Benvenuti - former track owner and son of original Board of Director Fred Benvenuti.
