Newt Palm, shown here circa 1961, became the first Speedbowl driver to successfully defend a Modified Championship when he won back-to-back titles in 1967-1968. Dick Beauregard won the 1962 Modified Track Championship, ten years after his first title, then rode off into the sunset with 62 Speedbowl wins and 2 track titles.
