Allen
Coates has been around the Waterford Speedbowl in some type of
race car for 2 decades. In the early 90's, he scored his
first feature wins in the Sunday Stocker series - one each in the
Pure Stocks and Mini Stocks (listed as Super X-car and X-car wins
respectively in the Vault). Then he moved to the Street
Stocks and had a dominate 1996 campaign to win the title. 2
years later, he had an even more dominant championship season in
the Late Models when he won 13 features. In 2009, after 3
Championships and 49 wins in the Late Models, Coates competed in
the Speedbowl's new truck division. He won the first 5 races
and 7 of the 9 scheduled events to win the title
unchallenged. The wins made him the first driver in
Speedbowl history with feature victories in 5 different divisions,
while the Track Championship gave him his 5th overall among a
record 3 different divisions. His 71 overall features wins
are now 5th best all-time as well.
